What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
ISTDP Services Pty Ltd, trading as ISTDP Australia & New Zealand, handles personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. This policy sets out what that means in practice.
It covers this website and the administration of our training. It does not cover clinical records or therapy session recordings. Where trainees record their own sessions for supervision, those recordings stay with the treating therapist under their own professional and privacy obligations. We do not hold them.
Training applications. When you apply for Pre-Core, Core or Advanced training you give us your name and contact details, your occupation, your professional qualifications, your professional membership and registration number, a signature, and a curriculum vitae. We use this to assess eligibility, confirm your place, and run the training. Deposits are handled by our forms provider and its payment processor; card numbers never reach us.
Enquiries. If you email us, or use the contact form on this site, we receive whatever you choose to tell us: your name, your email address, the kind of enquiry it is, and your message. The contact form is hosted by JotForm, the same provider as our application forms, and submissions are delivered to our inbox at [email protected].
Newsletter. If you subscribe we collect your email address, which is stored with our mailing provider. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link.
The therapist directory. The directory lists therapists who have trained with us, with the contact details they have asked us to publish. If you are listed and want your entry changed or removed, email us and we will do it.
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which parts of the site are useful, for example whether people reach the training pages or the calendar. It reports page views, approximate location by country, device type and referring website, along with a few actions such as opening an application form. When someone searches the therapist directory we record only that a search happened, never what was typed.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked before any analytics cookies are set, and analytics runs without cookies unless consent is given. Elsewhere analytics cookies are set by default. You can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time, or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
The application forms and the map on our contact page come from other companies and may set their own cookies when you use them.
Running this website and our training involves a small number of service providers. Most store information outside Australia, generally in the United States:
We take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that these providers handle information properly. Information held overseas may still be subject to the laws of the country it sits in.
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Applications from people who join a training | The length of the training, then seven years |
| Applications that are unsuccessful or withdrawn | Twelve months |
| General enquiries | Twenty-four months |
| Complaints | Seven years |
| Payment and invoice records | Five years, as the Australian Taxation Office requires |
| Newsletter subscription | Until you unsubscribe |
Training records are kept longest because ISTDP training is a professional qualification and people often need evidence of it years afterwards. Once information is no longer needed we destroy or de-identify it.
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Application forms go directly to our forms provider, also encrypted, and are not stored on this website. Access to applications and enquiries is limited to the people who run the training.
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within thirty days. We may need to confirm who you are first. If we cannot do what you have asked, we will tell you why.
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please tell us at [email protected]. Our complaints policy sets out how we handle complaints and the timeframes we work to.
If our response does not satisfy you, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. You do not need to come to us first.
We update this policy when what we do changes. The date below shows when it was last revised.
